Boldly going where no man has gone before, Tarantino has set out to make a Star Trek film that fans may either love or absolutely hate.
Earlier this week, Quentin Tarantino stated that his take on the beloved Star Trek franchise would be R-rated. Since it is Tarantino we are talking about here, the statement shouldn’t really be much of a shock to movie fans throughout the world. However, the idea of an R-rated Star Trek film is almost impossible to wrap your ahead around; especially if you have seen even just 5 minutes of Tarantino’s work.
Tarantino’s future plans for a Star Trek film also beg the question…. is another Star Trek film even necessary? With the success JJ Abrams had with his take on the beloved classic, the current TV series Star Trek: Discovery, and the upcoming Star Trek: Picard series, there does not really seem to be a huge need for any more Star Trek in the galaxy.
As an avid Tarantino fan, I am usually completely on board with whatever new project he has coming up next (cue the excited scream for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), but this odd excursion into the world of Star Trek raises more questions than applause.
While racking my brain trying to imagine what an R-rated Star Trek may look like, I have pieced together some possibilities based on the style of Tarantino’s extensive filmography.
Obviously, there will be loads of creative profanities thrown around like a sack of flour.
Spock may be the quiet and mysterious owner of a galactic night club.
Uhura and Sulu could run a secret underground fight club where all intergalactic races come together to duke it out to the death.
And Captain Kirk has an eye-patch for some mysterious, unspecified reason.
However Tarantino decides to make this film, there is one thing that we can count on for certain… it’s going to be an interesting ride.
